Single Parents with kids 9 and up, should contribute to the upkeep of the home? Or do you believe that’s the parent’s responsibility and kids aren’t expected to do chores beyond cleaning their rooms?

(My daughter is 11, and it’s just her me and 5 dogss) Do you believe kids should be taking on responsibility in the home other than room cleaning? This is generally (always with flexibility) what I expect her to help with or do herself. Assist with taking care of family pets, unloading dish washer, sorting own laundry and putting it in hamper to be washed, (I I do all the washing) fold towels and ,occasionally her clothes, keep her bathroom tidy (I do the actual cleaning) help with garbage (we have a dumpster that we have to take our outside cans to and empty in) and in general pick up after herself. Keep in mind not all of this is done in one day!! Some of its ongoing daily other things weekly. Also, unless on restriction I ALWAYS allow for free/play time with friends or alone. Whichever she prefers that day. Am I expecting too much?

the kids shouldn't be functionally responsible but should learn and not only participate but understand why contribution is a good thing

The only way to learn responsibility is to be responsible and that starts at a very early age.
