The phaser is noted in the explanation. The idea here was weapons that are in some way beyond the standard laser / ray gun.

Okay, this one is drawing to a close. A few words on our lowest ranked choices. Looker is a film from the early 80's written and directed by Michael Chricton who will later be best known for Jurassic Park. While a rather implausible premise, it's one of the first films I recall to play around with the idea of CGI. Holy crap...just watched some of these with Andy Samberg and Bill Hader running around with cats that shoot lasers out of their mouths. They get better as they go, the guys getting folks like Steve Martin, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg trying to pitch the idea to Lorne Michaels. Sigourney Weaver even shows up as 'Ripley' carrying a laser lion. No, don't recall ever seeing these, but certainly tops the bill for...

Haha, not head of this, one to check out. Daniel Radcliffe has done some interesting films since his Harry Potter days, refusing to be typecast. In Swiss Army Man, he plays a dead guy who washes ashore on an island Paul Dano is stranded on.
