Jealousy: Possessing/having something and being afraid someone will take it from you. Envy: Desiring something (i.e. a certain job title, a romantic partner) that belongs so someone else. Do you think the feelings defined above are healthy to feel?

A small amount of jealousy keeps you on your toes but too much will set you on your heels and the next place is down and out on the floor. Envy is a whole different thing. Even the Bible warns about envy; i.e.. "do not covet". So watch out if you feel envy but a touch of jealousy is healthy.

The emotions are healthy in and of themselves because they are an expression of our heart and provide an insight to what motivates us or how we feel toward others. How one responds to these emotions however may be unhealthy. Envy may drive us to become more successful if we wish to obtain what others have...etc. If you channel the emotions constructively....there is no harm.
