And as long as were on the subject, if YOU can't afford proper winter tires, YOU can't afford to drive (except if you live south of the Mason-Dixon line). Period.

All states and provinces that regularly get snow should have a mandatory winter tire law. Sort of like having to have good brakes...

I buy new because I can afford it. having said that, if you're comfortable and competent to judge the quality and value of used objects (including tires), you'll probably find good deals on 'better than average' quality tires compared to 'new'.

Some things we can buy used, however things that is a safety for yourself and the people that is with you isn’t the stuff to go “used” on.

If your vehicle uses tires that most all vehicles use - you could go either way - I wouldn't BUY USED - but in a pinch it's sometimes necessary ; also if you must put a tire(s) on a car that U R planning on getting rid of. The rear tires of my BMW 3 series are only made by 3 manufacturers - making used tires an impossibility!
